# Idle containers pause first and move out after 24 hours

2026-11-08 · Product

> A container that sits idle for 30 minutes now pauses and keeps its files in place. The workspace moves to long-term storage only after 24 hours.

Until now an idle container was paused after 30 minutes and its workspace was packed away at once. Waking it meant unpacking everything again. In one measured case with a 1.4 GB workspace, unpacking took 14 to 20 seconds of a start that lasted 16 to 22.

There are now two steps. After 30 minutes without activity the container pauses: processes stop, memory is freed, files stay where they are and it starts again quickly. Only after 24 hours paused, or earlier when storage runs short, does the workspace move to long-term storage. The first start after that takes longer, as before.

*Pausing is fast to undo; moving to storage comes much later.*

The Pause button and pausing from a chat now only pause. A move to storage applies only to containers that are still paused, so starting one in the meantime leaves its files untouched. A plan downgrade still moves a workspace at once when the smaller quota requires it. Nothing is lost and no action is needed.
