# Privacy policy 1.8.1: appearance settings

2026-10-12 · Privacy

> The privacy policy now describes what the new appearance settings store, where your background image lives and how to delete it.

The privacy policy is now version 1.8.1. It adds a section on the appearance settings released today; nothing else changed.

When you change the look of ZeroLog while signed in, your choices are stored with your account: preset, accent colour, typeface, background, motion, layout and keyboard shortcuts. Designs you save are stored the same way. They hold colours, numbers and fixed options; the only free text is a design name.

If you upload a background image, the server keeps a newly encoded copy without location or camera data and discards the original. Each account has at most one image. It stays on the server in Switzerland and only your account can load it. Remove it under Appearance at any time; resetting your appearance settings removes it too, and so does deleting your account.

Without an account, appearance settings stay in your browser and are not sent to us. The full text is in the [privacy policy](https://zerolog.ch/legal), section 3.2.2.
