4 November: accessibility fixes on the news pages, jobs and previews now survive updates

The news pages fix their skip link and closing note, and two new entries cover jobs and previews that carry on through updates.

User impact: Background

The skip link and the closing note on the news pages are fixed for keyboard and screen reader users. The rest is internal; protection limits now persist across updates. No action needed. Chat input rendering and optional animated backgrounds use less repeated drawing work. No action needed.

Two entries cover the larger changes of the day: long-running jobs and app previews and the tunnel service.

News pages

Two accessibility fixes on the news pages: the skip link has readable contrast again, and the closing note now sits inside a page landmark so screen readers announce it. No action is needed.

Rendering

The chat input keeps its coloured border while its moving highlight uses a small separate layer. The input no longer blurs the scene behind it. This reduces repeated drawing in the start view; no action is needed.

Optional particle, Matrix and flowing-gradient backgrounds pause when hidden or fully covered. Canvas rendering is capped at 15 fps and 1080p with DPR 1; the gradient keeps its colours and path with a smaller texture. No action needed.

Internal

Internal tooling and reliability fixes, no user impact: upgrade answers from containers can no longer set cookies on zerolog.ch; vault rate limits on value reads are shared across both service instances, so an update no longer resets them; security alert mails reach the provider on the first try; the pre-merge check always tests a branch as it stands on origin; main takes merges only after a green full check on the exact head. Prices, plans and terms did not change.
