Claude Code locally or in a Swiss cloud
You can run Claude Code on your own computer or inside a ZeroLog container in Switzerland. This page shows what differs, and one thing that does not.
The short answer
Running it locally fits better when
- Your working copy should stay on your own computer.
- You do not want to pay for a container on top of your Claude plan.
- You want the full power of your own hardware, or an existing Bedrock, Google Cloud or Foundry setup.
- You work at one desk and do not need the session when the computer is off.
ZeroLog fits better when
- You want the working copy off your laptop and in a container that persists between sessions.
- You want to reach the same workspace from a browser, a terminal client or your phone.
- You like files at rest with a Swiss operator, and you understand that the model still runs at Anthropic.
- You want ZeroLog's own tools around it, for example /goal runs and scheduled jobs.
Side by side
| Aspect | Claude Code locally | ZeroLog |
|---|---|---|
| Requirements | macOS 13.0 or later, Windows 10 1809 or later, Ubuntu 20.04 or later, Debian 10 or later, or Alpine Linux 3.19 or later. At least 4 GB RAM on x64 or ARM64. Internet connection required. Available in Anthropic supported countries. | A ZeroLog plan with a container (Mini or higher). Mini has 4 GB RAM in total, Pro 8 GB, Max 12 GB. Claude Code lists 4 GB or more as its requirement, so on Mini little is left for your own work. |
| Account | A Claude Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account, or a third-party provider such as Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud's Agent Platform or Microsoft Foundry. The free claude.ai plan does not include Claude Code. | The same Claude account, which you sign in yourself under Settings, AI accounts. ZeroLog is not part of that sign-in. Logging in your own AI subscriptions is included from Mini. |
| Cost | Claude Code usage is billed by your Claude plan or by API tokens. Anthropic reports an average of about $13 per developer per active day and $150 to $250 per developer per month across enterprise deployments, with 90 % of users below $30 per active day. Your own use can differ widely. | Claude is billed by Anthropic on your subscription, and nothing reaches your ZeroLog credit ledger. On top comes the ZeroLog plan for the container. Current prices are on the pricing page. |
| Limits | The limits of your Claude plan or API account apply. | Your subscription's own limits apply unchanged. ZeroLog does not raise them, extend them or reroute a request that has hit one. |
| Where the files live | On your computer, wherever you keep them. | In the container, on the ZeroLog server in Seon (Aargau), Switzerland. Ordinary chat history and container storage remain technically accessible to the operator under the rules in the privacy policy. |
| Where the model runs | At Anthropic, or at the cloud provider you chose. | At Anthropic (USA), reached directly from the container. Prompts for Claude Code do not pass through Featherless, the provider of ZeroLog's own models. |
| Isolation | Sandboxing is supported on WSL 2, not on native Windows. | Your container is separate from other users' workspaces and runs on gVisor where available. You can choose a VM class for untrusted code. Outbound traffic is filtered. |
| Updates | Native installs update themselves in the background. Homebrew, WinGet and Linux package managers update only when you ask. | The same installation rules apply inside the container. ZeroLog does not manage the tool's version. |
What moving it does not change
Claude Code needs an internet connection in both cases, and the model answers from Anthropic (or from the cloud provider you set up). When you sign in your own Claude subscription inside a ZeroLog container, the tool talks to Anthropic directly, under your contract with Anthropic. Your prompt and the files the tool reads go from the container to Anthropic. They do not stay in Switzerland just because the container is there.
What does move is the place where your files and the running process live: on a server in Seon (Aargau), Switzerland, instead of your computer. If your concern is where the model processes your prompts, this page cannot offer a Swiss answer, and neither can ZeroLog.
The limits of ZeroLog
- Closed preview
Accounts are issued on request. You can join the waiting list at /warteliste.
- Limited capacity
The servers are our own and the number of containers is limited. A plan buys a fixed machine, not a share of unlimited capacity.
- No customer references
ZeroLog has no customers to name yet. There are no testimonials and no usage figures on this page.
- Model inference runs abroad
Files and chats are stored on our servers in Seon (Aargau), Switzerland. Prompts to the models ZeroLog provides go to Featherless in the USA, and can be processed in further countries. The privacy policy lists the providers.
- Extension and app are not in the stores yet
The Chrome extension is still in review at the Web Store, and the Android app comes as an APK outside the Play Store. See Extension and Mobile.
- Your container is a Linux box, not your desktop
Tools that need your local desktop, your installed applications or a graphical session are not available in a container.
- No promise about the vendor
Whether signing in a subscription from a hosted container fits your plan's terms is between you and Anthropic. ZeroLog is not the subscriber and does not speak for the vendor.
Questions
Does Claude Code in a ZeroLog container keep my prompts in Switzerland?
No. The container stands in Switzerland, but Claude Code sends prompts and the files it reads to Anthropic in the USA. Only the files at rest and the running process are in Switzerland.
Do I pay ZeroLog for Claude usage?
No. When you sign in your own Claude account, Anthropic bills you on your subscription and nothing reaches your ZeroLog credit. You pay ZeroLog for the container plan.
What does Claude Code cost locally?
It depends on your plan or on API use. Anthropic gives an average of about $13 per developer per active day for enterprise deployments. See the vendor page for the current figures and subscription prices.
Can I use ZeroLog today?
Only on request. ZeroLog is in a closed preview. You can ask for an account through the waiting list.
