ZeroLog vs. Gitpod (now Ona)

Gitpod no longer exists under that name. This page explains what became of it, what Ona offers today and where ZeroLog differs, including who can sign up at all.

The short answer

Ona fits better when

  • You already belong to an organization that uses Ona.
  • You run background agents on a schedule, on pull request events or from an issue tracker.
  • Your policy asks for the platform inside your own VPC on AWS or GCP.
  • You work in an enterprise setting with governance and audit needs.

ZeroLog fits better when

  • You are a new user looking for a cloud workspace and cannot sign up with Ona.
  • You want a single container with a terminal and an AI chat on a fixed monthly price.
  • You want files and chats stored in Switzerland, and accept that prompts to the provided models go abroad.
  • You can wait for an invitation, since ZeroLog is also in a closed preview.

What happened to Gitpod

  • 2 September 2025: renamed

Gitpod announced that it is now Ona and described the product as mission control for autonomous software engineering agents.

  • 15 October 2025: end of Gitpod Classic

Ona announced that the pay-as-you-go plan of Gitpod Classic would sunset on 15 October (the post is dated 2 September 2025). The .gitpod.yml format is deprecated in favour of devcontainer.json and automations.yml. Enterprise customers got their own migration timeline.

  • 11 June 2026: joining OpenAI

Ona announced that it is joining OpenAI, and its site now carries the line "Part of OpenAI". Press reports of that day described it as an acquisition. We have not checked whether the deal has closed.

  • Today: new sign-ups are closed

Ona's documentation says "New customer signup is closed". Existing customers and new members of existing organizations can keep using it. For a self-service cloud workspace, Ona is therefore not an option for new customers at the moment.

The limits of ZeroLog

  • Closed preview

Accounts are issued on request. You can join the waiting list at /warteliste.

  • Limited capacity

The servers are our own and the number of containers is limited. A plan buys a fixed machine, not a share of unlimited capacity.

  • No customer references

ZeroLog has no customers to name yet. There are no testimonials and no usage figures on this page.

  • Model inference runs abroad

Files and chats are stored on our servers in Seon (Aargau), Switzerland. Prompts to the models ZeroLog provides go to Featherless in the USA, and can be processed in further countries. The privacy policy lists the providers.

  • Extension and app are not in the stores yet

The Chrome extension is still in review at the Web Store, and the Android app comes as an APK outside the Play Store. See Extension and Mobile.

  • No enterprise governance

ZeroLog has no organization features such as audit trails across a team or deployment into your own VPC. If you need those, ZeroLog is not the right tool today.

Questions

Is Gitpod still available?

Not under that name. Gitpod became Ona in September 2025, and Ona announced that Gitpod Classic pay-as-you-go would end on 15 October 2025. Ona's documentation says new customer sign-up is closed.

What are the alternatives to Gitpod?

For repository-based environments there is GitHub Codespaces; see our comparison. For a persistent container with an AI chat there is ZeroLog, which is in a closed preview.

Does ZeroLog read .gitpod.yml?

The documentation does not describe support for .gitpod.yml or for devcontainer.json. You choose a base image and set the rest up inside the container.

Where is my data stored with ZeroLog?

Files and chats are stored on the operator's server in Seon (Aargau), Switzerland. Prompts to the provided models go to Featherless in the USA.
