Preview links now expire, and backups are encrypted offsite

Container preview links last 7 days by default and can be revoked. Backups are encrypted before they leave the server and copied to a second machine.

User impact: Important change

Preview links created before this update stop working on 20 October 2026 at 15:44 UTC, so create a new link before then if someone still needs access.

A preview link used to work without a sign-in for as long as the container existed, and you could not take it back. That has changed.

A new link expires after 7 days unless you pick 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days when you create it. 30 days is the maximum. In the chat's links bar you can revoke a single link or all links of a container. An expired or revoked link shows a short page saying so. Deleting a container, or a chat whose container is kept, also ends its links. Links created before this change stop working on 20 October 2026 at 15:44 UTC, 7 days after the update. If someone still needs one, create a new link before then.

Backups are now encrypted with age before they are written, copied to a second machine and kept for 30 days (the seven newest are always kept). The restore path is tested by decrypting a backup and checking the database.

The privacy policy (version 1.9.1) describes both changes. It also states that ZeroLog does not record sign-in events, last-use times or new-place warnings.
